How to Get a U.S. Passport For the First Time

Thinking of traveling to Star Dental Implant Center in Costa Rica, but don’t have your passport? Don’t let this small bump in the road stop you from pursuing your much-needed dental work.

Traveling to Costa Rica will require a passport, but not a visa; obtaining one is not as difficult as you might imagine. The steps are simple.

This process can take around 6 to 8 weeks once all your documents have been handed in. There is a way to expedite the process; however, it does have an additional fee, so be sure to ask. The expedited option usually takes around 2-3 weeks.

Here are the steps recommended by Star Dental Implant Center:

First, you will need to find your U.S. birth certificate. This cannot be a print-out or copy; it must be the original document. If you don’t have the original document, you can contact the vital records office in the state where you were born.

Once you have your birth certificate handy, you will need to take passport photos. You can either take them yourself or you can go have them taken for you. We would recommend having them taken for you as attempting to meet all the requirements can be tricky.

Another document that you will need to have with you is a valid governmental ID, such as your driver’s license.

After this step, you will need to fill out the DS-11 form. In order to fill it out properly, you can either fill it out online and then print it, or print it and then fill the information out by hand. The forms must be completed, but not signed. Have the forms filled out to take with all your other documents.

In the following link, you can see where your nearest Passport Acceptance Facility is located. This will be the office where you will submit all of your required documents. Please be sure to contact them prior to your visit in order to verify the fees that this will entail and what method of payment is accepted:

Once this has been completed, check the status of your passport online, and wait for your new passport!
