Our STAR Dental Implant Center Process

For those who have never gone through the process of getting dental implants before, the experience can be confusing and even frightening. This is completely understandable! We at STAR Dental Implant Center have done our best to make our process clear in the following text:

Your dental treatment process begins with a call to our patient coordinator, Melissa. Melissa is a US citizen, living in the US, who has been in this field for more than six years. In order to best serve you, she will want to understand your current dental situation and what your dental goals are at the end of the treatment process. With this information, we can provide you with a preliminary treatment plan that serves your wants and needs. She will also give you a brief introduction to our team, the clinic, and the different treatments we may recommend. She will have no trouble fielding any questions you might have on treatment options and the process of completing treatment, travel, or possible ways to fund your treatment. We want to earn your trust, so this process is about you getting to know us and for us to find out how we can help you get the smile you have been dreaming of. We also understand that this may be new to you, so we’ll make sure to take you step-by-step through the process and answer any questions you may have.

We will provide you with a no-hassle, free initial assessment. For this, we will need panoramic x-rays (we can tell you how to get these if you don’t have them already), some pictures of your smile, and your clinical history (if you have it – it’s good to have but not essential).

Within 24 hours, we will use this information to provide a preliminary treatment plan and estimated cost. You’ll then be able to compare our treatment plan against any quotes you have from US clinics. We’re confident that we will be able to offer big savings using the same US-certified materials and procedures you would find in the US.

Once you are comfortable with the preliminary plan and we have answered any questions you may have, we will help guide you on booking your travel to Costa Rica.

We can help with flights and hotels, as well as offering complimentary ground transportation to and from the airport to your hotel and to and from the hotel to the clinic for your appointments. We can even assist you in obtaining or renewing your passport if you don’t already have one.

Once in Costa Rica, we will provide you with the final treatment plan after completing a clinical exam and 3D CT scan. Our US-trained clinician will talk you through the plan step-by-step and answer any questions before you decide to proceed. We promise to be transparent and honest when discussing your options.

Your treatment plan may call for individual implants or an “All-On-Four” solution. Some patients will require extractions of their failing teeth before the implants are placed. Depending on your bone quality and quantity bone grafting may be required before implant placement – our surgeon will do all of this if necessary.

For single implants, our team will place the individual implants to create the new “root” for your new “tooth.” Once the implants are placed, we will provide you with a temporary partial denture that is meant to last a few months before the permanent one is placed. For the All-on-Four treatment, extractions and implants are done at the same time, and a fixed healing bridge is attached to the implants that is meant to last a few months before the permanent one is placed.

We will wait 4-6 months for the body to grow bone around the implants (osseo-integration stage), and make sure they are stable within the bone. We will guide you on the do’s and don’ts during this stage. While this may feel like a long time, it’s important that these are strong enough to ensure your new smile is truly permanent.

You are now ready for your permanent smile! We will have you come to Costa Rica one final time to place custom-made crowns on the single implants or custom-made final bridges (acrylic hybrid or zirconia) on the All-on-Four.

It’s not uncommon to hear our patients say, “Thank you! This treatment has changed my life.” Your new smile will give you regained confidence in your personal life, social life, and professional life.

We will give you instructions on how to care for your new smile. We recommend a checkup 6 months after your last visit and annually afterward. These can be done with your local clinician or we will be happy to see you again at our clinic.
